CONGENITAL CRANIOMENINGOCELE
One of the most frequently encountered congenital defects in cattle involves central nervous system
[1], which may account for 12 to 21 percent of congenitally defective calves [2, 3]. Meningocele has been
described as a failure of the neural tube to fuse shortly after conception [1, 4, 5, 6]. The
craniomeningocele is a hernial protrusion of the meninges and/or cerebral tissue through a cranium
bifidum, usually forming a fluid-filled sac on the frontal or parietal bones. The associated defects are
agnathia, cleft palate, other central nervous system defects, arthrogryposis and atresia ani [1]. (KAYNAK=Vetcer)
